Women's T&F Concludes UMass Amherst Pre-Conference Meet
The Central Connecticut women's outdoor track and field team finished fifth at the UMass Amherst Pre-Conference meet on Saturday.
The Central Connecticut women's outdoor track and field team finished fifth at the UMass Amherst Pre-Conference meet on Saturday. The Blue Devils compiled 49 total points over 19 scored events at the meet to earn the fifth place finish. Central recorded seven top-five finishes on the afternoon, led by junior Chantelle Deer's runner-up finish in the 400 meter dash.
UMass-Amherst Pre-Conference Meet Results
Deer clocked in at 1:00.80 in the 400 meter dash to pick up the second place finish for the Blue Devils. Deer was joined by freshman Taylor Boncal to finish in the top-five in the event. Boncal crossed the finish line just behind Deer with a time of 1:01.40 to record a fourth place finish.
Senior distance runner Elizabeth Eberhardt had an excellent day for the Blue Devils, logging a top-five finish in the 1,500 meter run. Eberhardt turned in a new collegiate personal best in the event with a time of 4:33.33, bettering her previous best time by seven seconds to earn a fifth place overall finish.
Melissa Wolliston also ran a new collegiate personal best time on Saturday at the Pre-Conference meet, but in the 100 meter hurdles. The sophomore came in at 14.66 in the event to record a fifth place finish, lowering her previous best time by two tenths of a second.
Junior Chelse Terry picked up a second place finish in the discus throw for CCSU, tossing the discus to a season best distance of 40.10 meters.
Host UMass Amherst won the UMass-Amherst Pre-Conference meet totaling 178 points as a team. New Hampshire finished runner-up with 167 points followed by Dartmouth with 165 points. Vermont was fourth with 57 points followed by the Blue Devils with 49 points. CCSU finished ahead of Maine who compiled 46 points, UMass Lowell (24) and Hartford (2) to round out the eight team field.
The women's outdoor track and field team will return to competition at the 2015 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships next weekend, May 2 and 3.
