Eberhardt, Saunders Earn USTFCCCA Academic Recognition
Pair earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Individuals honor.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team had a pair of student-athletes named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Individuals for recognition for their academic performance during the 2014-15 season. Seniors Elizabeth Eberhardt and Ronea Saunders both earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Individuals honors.
USTFCCCA All-Academic Individuals Release
Saunders was honored as a USTFCCCA All-Academic selection for the second consecutive year. She was a member of CCSU's distance medley relay team that won gold at the NEC indoor meet and she placed second in the high jump. The school record-holder in the high jump, Saunders went on to compete at the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships, placing seventh in the event.
Eberhardt also enjoyed a sensational season in the classroom and on the track. Eberhardt was also a member on the 4,000 meter distance medley relay team with Saunders. She also placed second in the one-mile run at the NEC Indoor Championships. At the outdoor championships, Eberhardt won the steeplechase to earn All-NEC honors and qualified for the NCAA East Regional Preliminary.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
- For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org
- For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
A total of 838 women from 207 institutions earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for their combined academic and athletic accomplishments.
