W. Outdoor Finishes Seventh at AIC on Saturday
The women's outdoor track and field team placed seventh out of 14 teams on Saturday at the 5th Annual Yellow Jacket Invitational.
The Central Connecticut women's outdoor track and field team placed seventh out of 14 teams at the 5th Annual Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday in Springfield, MA. The Blue Devils compiled a team score of 43.5 points over 20 events in their first outdoor competition of the season to earn the result. The meet was held at the John G. Hoyt '52 Track & Field Complex on the campus of American International College.
YELLOW JACKET INVITATIONAL RESULTS
Sherise Truman kicked off the scoring for CCSU at the AIC meet on Saturday. The sophomore placed on the podium with a third place finish in the 100 meter dash after crossing the finish line with a time of 12.78. She earned six points toward the team score from the result.
Truman followed that up by earning three more points towards the CCSU score in the 200 meter dash. She took sixth in the event, crossing the finish line with a time of 26.39.
Freshman Taylor Boncal also recorded a sixth place finish for the Blue Devils, but in the 400 meter dash. The rookie crossed the finish line with a time of 1:01.46 to earn the result and four points toward the CCSU team score.
Senior Taylor LePage ran to a time of 2:24.04 in the 800 meter run to pick up a fifth place finish and five points for CCSU.
Distance runner, Shannon McBride, recorded a runner-up performance in the 10,000 meter run for the Blue Devils on Saturday. The senior completed the event in 38:24.64, a new personal-best time, to earn the finish and eight points for CCSU.
Sophomores Melissa Wolliston and Sarah Hicks both finished in the top-five for Central in the 100 meter hurdles. Wolliston sprinted to a time of 15.04, just two hundredths off her personal-best time, and Hicks came in at 15.62 to set a new personal-best time. Wolliston finished second overall while Hicks took fourth and the duo combined to earn 13 points toward the Blue Devils score.
Wolliston followed that up with a sixth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles. She brought in three points for CCSU after she crossed the finish line with a time of 1:10.16.
Freshman Abrah Toomey completed the scoring for Central at the meet. The rookie earned one point in the javelin after she finished in eighth place out of 21 competitors. Toomey launched the javelin to 29.87 meters to earn the score.
Northeastern won the 5th Annual Yellow Jacket Invitational with a team score of 148 points. They were followed by Vermont (90) and Stonehill (75.5) to round out the podium. Host American International was fourth with 69 points and Wellesley finished fifth with 68 points to complete the top-five.
The Blue Devils will return to action with some athletes attending the North Florida Twilight Meet on April 10 and others traveling to either UMass-Amherst for the Minutemen Invitational or to Bucknell for the Bison Outdoor Classic on April 11.
