Borecki Sets School-Record at New England Championships
Borecki highlights the day with a record-setting pole vault.
The Central Connecticut men's track & field team competed in the New England Outdoor Championships (NEICAAA) on Friday held at MIT in Boston, MA. Freshman Sam Borecki set a school-record in the pole vault to highlight the day's results for CCSU athletes.
NEW ENGLAND OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS
Borecki claimed third in the pole vault with a school-record vault of 4.85 meters (15'11"). Borecki bested his previous personal-best vault of 4.60 meters, which he set last weekend to win the event at the Northeast Conference Championships.
A pair of Blue Devils placed in the finals of the javelin. Sophomore Jeremy Willis earned fifth-place with a throw of 56.58 meters (185'7") and freshman Tyler Latham took seventh with a heave of 56.30 meters (184'8").
Junior Kendall Walker and freshman David Campbell ran in the prelims of the 100m dash, clocking times of 11.00 and 11.28 seconds, respectively. Walker also ran in the 200m dash and turned in a time of 22.35 seconds in his heat.
Senior Jordan Watkins qualified for the finals in the 110m hurdles. He won his heat with a time of 14.60. Watkins, the NEC champion in this event, turned in the fourth-fastest qualifying time of the day. His classmate, Ryan Budd, qualified for the finals of the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.29. Both will compete in the event finals on Saturday.
Sophomore Zach Andrews narrowly missed out on qualifying for the finals of the 400m dash. He turned in a time of 49.47 seconds, which was the ninth-fastest time of qualifying, just .22 seconds out of the final spot.
Sophomore Ryan Hertzog turned in a time of 15:22.71 in the 5,000 meter run.
