Men's T&F Completes Action at Boston University
The Central Connecticut men's track and field team completed competition of the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday afternoon in Boston, MA.
The Central Connecticut men's track and field team completed competition of the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday afternoon in Boston, MA. Senior Jordan Watkins led the way for the Blue Devils on the track with a ninth place finish in the 60 meter hurdles. In the field events, sophomore Kwency Crittenden recorded the best finish for CCSU at the meet with an eighth place finish in the triple jump. Eleven Blue Devils either tied or set new personal-records on the day.

Watkins, the 60 meter hurdles school-record holder, finished the race on Saturday in 8.29, just eight tenths of a second slower than his record-time, to earn his ninth place finish. The ninth place finish was the best for the Blue Devils on the track at the meet.
Latham also recorded a solid finish in the 60 meter hurdles, coming in right behind Watkins with a 15th place overall finish and a time of 8.42.
Senior Jamal Fruster recorded the second-best result on the track for the Blue Devils with a 17th place finish out of 150 in the 400 meter dash. Fruster crossed the finish line with a time of 48.67.
Sophomore Zach Andrews and senior Chris Savvidou joined Fruster in the 400 meter dash and they both logged personal-best times in the process. Andrews finished 35th with a time of 49.50 and Savvidou came in at 50.31 to pick-up a 63rd place overall finish.
Junior Connor Malcolm ran a personal-best time in the 800 meter run for CCSU. The Bridgeport product finished 23rd with a time of 1:54.07.
Patrick Hubbell led the Blue Devils in the mile run, recording a 29th place finish out of 196 competitors. The senior crossed the finish line with a blistering time of 4:11.17.
In the 60 meter dash, freshman David Campbell was the first to represent CCSU with a 33rd place finish at a 7.11 clip. Sophomore Kendall Walker was right behind Campbell coming in 37th place and tied his personal-best with a 7.14 finish.
Sophomore Jevon Elmore finished 37th in the 200 meter dash and recorded a personal-best time of 22.24. Walker continued to have a successful day on the track and joined Elmore in the 200 meter dash, finishing 48th overall with an indoor personal-best time of 22.42.
The CCSU 4x400 meter relay team of Andrews, Malcolm, Savvidou and Fruster ran a season-best time at the Terrier Classic of 3:19.61. The time earned them a 16th place finish and qualified them to compete at the IC4A Championships on March 7th and 8th.
Crittenden led the way for the Blue Devils in the field events with his eighth place finish in the triple jump. The sophomore leaped to 14.08 meters on his final attempt to earn the eighth place finish. He also recorded a 30th place finish in the long jump at the meet. The Windsor native landed at the 6.07 meter mark on his final attempt to record the finish.
In the high jump, freshman Malik Gordon recorded the best finish for CCSU with a 14th place finish after clearing a person-best height of 1.95 meters.
Freshman Sam Borecki cleared 4.45 meters in the pole vault in his first collegiate meet as a Blue Devil.
Central had an excellent day out of its throwers at the BU meet as four members recorded career-best distances. In the weight throw, senior Michael Ficorilli launched the weight to 15.85 meters on his first attempt. The distance passed his previous career-best mark by almost a full meter.
Sophomore Jeremy Willis and freshmen Zach Torro and Peter Cotto also logged new personal-best distances in the weight throw. Willis finished 35th with a distance of 13.70 meters, Torro finished 37th at 13.58 meters and Cotto threw the weight 13.01 meters to finish 42nd.
In the shot put, Ficorilli and Torro finished 27th and 28th respectively. Ficorilli threw 13.64 meters on his first attempt, while Torro threw to 13.61 meters on his second attempt
The Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team will be back in action next weekend on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Coaches Tribute Meet at the University of Rhode Island.
