Watkins Advances to Finals at IC4A/ECAC Championships
Senior Jordan Watkins advanced to the 60 meter hurdles finals at the IC4A/ECAC on Saturday.
Six members of the Central Connecticut indoor men's track and field team competed on the first day of competition at the IC4A/ECAC Championships on Saturday afternoon. The two-day championships are being held at the BU Track and Tennis Center at Boston University.
IC4A/ECAC Day One Results
Senior Jordan Watkins highlighted the day for CCSU, breaking the school record in the 60 meter hurdles semifinal heat. Watkins finished ninth overall in the preliminary round with a time of 8.29 to qualify for the semifinal heat and then sped to a fifth place finish in the semifinal heat with a time of 8.18. The time breaks the school record that Watkins previously set at 8.21 and the finish earns him a spot in tomorrows 60 meter hurdles finals.
Junior Dashawn Putman also had a great day at the championship meet. Putman cleared 2.02 meters in the high jump to pick up a tied for fifth place overall finish in the event and earned three points for CCSU's team score.
Malcolm Connor ran a new personal-best in the 800 meter run finals with a time of 1:52.67. The junior's time earned him a 13th place overall finish out of 31 competitors in the event.
A pair of Blue Devils competed in the 400 meter dash preliminaries at the IC4A/ECAC Championships. Sophomore Zach Andrews and senior Jamal Fruster finished 19th and 23rd respectively for CCSU. Andrews crossed the finish line with a new indoor personal-best time of 49.06 and Fruster came in at 49.50.
Freshman Tyler Latham logged a 31st place finish in the 200 meter dash prelims for CCSU with a time of 22.42.
The 4x400 Blue Devil relay team of Andrews, Latham, Connor and Fruster earned a 16th place finish at the meet, coming in at 3:17. 86. The team recording a season-best time en route to the finish in the event.
The second day of competition of the IC4A/ECAC Championships will begin tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. with the triple jump finals and the first running event will start at 11:15 a.m. Live results can be followed at lancertime.com.
