Men's Track And Field Complete NYC Gotham Cup Friday
The CCSU men's indoor track and field team completed competition at the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday night.
The Central Connecticut men's indoor track team continued its 2015 season at the NYC Gotham Cup at The Armory in New York, NY on Friday. Central was led by seniors Jamal Fruster and Patrick Hubbell from the track and sophomore Kwency Crittenden and junior Dashawn Putman in the field events. NYC Gotham Cup Results
Fruster recorded the best finish of the day for the Blue Devils on the track claiming third place in the 400 meter dash. Fruster completed the event in 48.62 to earn the bronze medal.
Classmate and NEC Track Athlete of the Week, Patrick Hubbell, recorded the next best finish for the Blue Devils on the track. The senior standout took fourth in the 3,000 meter run with a new personal-best time of 8:27.33. The time shatters his previous personal-best time of 8:38.76.
Crittenden was the top performer for CCSU in the field events recording a third place overall finish in the triple jump. The sophomore leaped to a personal-best 14.22 meters to earn the bronze.
In the same event, teammate Dashawn Putman also recorded a personal-best distance and finished right behind Crittenden in fifth place. Putman landed at 14.11 meters and logged the second best finish for the Blue Devils in all of the field events.
Senior Jordan Watkins set a new school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.21. Watkins record-setting time earned him a seventh place finish in the finals heat of the event.
Junior Matt Walker finished 22nd in the 3,000 meter run coming in with a time of 8:46.03.
In the 500 meter dash, junior Malcolm Connor finished 25th with a time of 1:06.84.
Freshman Austin Trainor ran an indoor personal-best in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.36. The pace was the first sub two-minute time the rookie has recorded indoors.
Putman continued his successful day with an eighth place finish in the high jump. He tied his career-best height clearing 1.99 meters.
Freshman Malik Gordon also soared to a new personal-best in the high jump clearing 1.94 meters. Gordon's height earned him a 20th place finish in the event.
Michael Ficorilli led the way for the Blue Devils in the shot put. The senior threw to a distance of 13.75 meters to record a 16th place finish.
Sophomore Jeremy Willis threw a new personal-best in the weight throw and finished 19th overall with a distance of 13.26 meters.
The men's indoor track and field team will split-up next weekend as some members of the team will attend the New Balance College Invitational back down at The Armory in New York, NY on Friday and Saturday. The rest of the Blue Devils will continue action at Rhode Island in the Sorlien Memorial Invitational on Saturday.
