M. Track Completes David Hemery Valentine Invitational
The Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team finished action at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday at Boston University.
The Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team finished action at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday at Boston University. The Blue Devils were led by sophomore Jevon Elmore on the track and junior Dashawn Putman in the field at the meet.
DAVID HEMERY VALENTINE INVITATIONAL RESULTS
Jordan Watkins kicked things off at the meet for the Blue Devils with an 11th place finish in the 60 meter hurdles. The senior crossed the finish line with a time of 8.35.
Elmore followed by cracking the top-10 with a ninth place finish out of 112 competitors in the 60 meter finals coming in at 6.99.
In the 800 meter run, freshman Austin Trainor picked up a 110th place finish out of 205 competitors. The rookie logged a time of 1:58.60 to earn the finish.
Senior Jamal Fruster and sophomore Zach Andrews both finished in the top-50 out of 190 in the 400 meter dash. Fruster tied his indoor personal-best time and school-record time of 48.31 to lead the way for CCSU in the event with a 17th place finish. Andrews earned a 48th place finish with a time of 49.51.
Senior sprinter Chris Savvidou also ran in the 400 meter dash for the Blue Devils. Savvidou crossed the finish line with a new personal-best time of 50.16 to finish in 71st place.
Malcolm Connor had an excellent showing in the 500 meter dash. The sophomore ran a new personal-best in the event coming in at 1:04.66 to lead the way for CCSU and earn an 11th place finish. Sophomore Will Ribiero also ran a personal-best in the 500 meter dash coming in at 1:07.99, good for a 46th place overall finish.
Freshman Tyler Latham ran a huge new career-best in the 200 meter dash. The rookie came in at 22.22 to record a 50th place finish. His time also qualified him for the IC4A/ECAC Championships on Mar. 7-8. Sophomore Kendall Walker finished in the top-100 out of 202 competitors in the same event. Walker placed 92nd with a time of 22.68.
Senior Patrick Hubbell led the Blue Devils in the mile run. Hubbell recorded a 79th place finish out of 308 competitors with a time of 4:14.82. Classmate Andrew Hill and sophomore Derek French finished 207th and 208th, respectively, in the same event. Hill came in at 4:28.90 and French followed at 4:28.96.
The 4x400 relay team of Connor, Trainor, French and freshman Brendan Callahan finished 48th with a combined time of 3:31.88.
Sophomore Ryan Hertzog clocked a new personal-best in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:03.76. He took a spill at the beginning of the race, but recovered to record the personal-best time and finish 38th overall.
Junior Dashawn Putman recorded the best finish for CCSU at the meet with a tied for 7th place finish in the high jump. Putman cleared 1.95 meters to earn the finish.
In the long jump, freshman Mike Lang recorded a 26th place finish after leaping to 6.40 meters.
Freshman Zach Torro had a big day for the Blue Devils in the throwing events. The rookie launched the shot put to 13.77 meters on his second throw to pick up a 29th place finish in the event. Then, in the weight throw, Torro threw over a meter past his previous personal-best distance to 13.90 meters to record a 36th place finish.
Sophomore Jeremy Willis was the only Blue Devil to throw farther than Torro in the weight throw and he did so with a 13.94 meter toss to finish right ahead of Torro in 35th place.
Freshman pole-vaulter Sam Borecki tied for 22nd in the pole vault clearing 4.25 meters.
The men's indoor track and field team will return to action with the Northeast Conference Championships on Feb. 21-22.
