Updated: Duo Complete URI Heptathlon, Latham Third
Two members of the Central Connecticut indoor track and field team completed competition at the URI Heptathlon meet on Thursday afternoon.
DAY 2:
Freshmen Tyler Latham and Mike Lang of the Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team completed competition of the URI Heptathlon meet on Thursday afternoon. The heptathlon is a track and field combined events contest made up of seven events; the 60 meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 60 meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000 meter run. The meet took place in Mackal Field House on the campus of the University of Rhode Island.

Latham, who began the second day of competition in second place, finished in third place overall out of seven competitors to earn the bronze medal at the meet. Latham earned 1,748 points in the three events on day two to finish with 4,555 total points.
Lang, who began the second day of competition in fourth place, finished sixth overall with a total of 3,901 points. Lang tallied 1,314 points on day two of competition.
The second and final day of the meet featured three events, the 60 meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000 meter run. Latham, who was just 13 points behind the leader entering the day, started off strong as he finished first in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.63. Lang picked up a fifth place finish in the event with a time of 9.36.
In the pole vault, Latham recorded a sixth place finish after clearing 2.70 meters. He cleared 2.50 meters on his first attempt, passed on 2.60 meters and moved to 2.70 meters, which he cleared on his second attempt, but was unable to clear the next bar height of 2.80 meters on three attempts. Lang was unable to clear 2.50 meters on his three attempts and finished seventh in the event.
In the final event, the 1,000 meter run, both Latham and Lang recorded top-five finishes. Lang led the way with a runner-up performance finishing with a time of 3:01.92. Latham picked up a fourth place finish with a time of 3:03.26.
The CCSU men's and women's indoor track and field teams will be back in action this weekend on Friday, Jan. 16 at the Armory in New York, NY for the NYC Gotham Cup.
DAY 1:
Freshmen Tyler Latham and Mike Lang of the Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team finished the first day of competition at the URI Heptathlon meet on Wednesday afternoon. The meet took place in Mackal Field House on the campus of the University of Rhode Island.
Latham currently sits in second place out of seven competitors after day one of competition at the meet. He accumulated 2,807 points after the completion of the first four events.
Latham, a Mystic, CT native, placed second in two out of the four events and tied for second in a third on day one of competition. The rookie took silver in the 60 meter dash and long jump and shared the silver in the high jump. He finished the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.28, leaped to 6.55 meters in the long jump and cleared 1.88 meters in the high jump.
In the other event on day one, the shot put, Latham finished third after he threw a distance of 12.17 meters.
Latham's 2,807 points are just 13 points behind the leader, Jacob Moran from the University of Rhode Island.
Lang finished the first day of competition in fourth place, accumulating 2,587 points after the first four events.
The rookie finished tied for second in the high jump clearing 1.88 meters. He picked up a pair of third place finishes in the 60 meter dash and the long jump. The Prospect, CT product finished the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.32 and jumped to 6.44 meters in the long jump.
In the shot put, Lang threw to a distance of 9.16 meters to earn a seventh place finish.
The duo will return to action tomorrow, Jan. 15 for the second and final day of the URI Heptathlon meet. The events will begin with the 60 meter hurdles followed by the pole vault and finish with the 1,000 meter run.
