Alexander Finishes 20th at NCAA Prelim
Sam Alexander ran the 10,000m in 30:56.57
Central Connecticut senior harrier Sam Alexander finished 20th in the 10,000m on Thursday night. Alexander finished the race in a time of 30:56.57 falling short of the final cut for the NCAA Championships which will take place in June.
The senior finished ahead of the 21st place finisher by 44 seconds, William & Mary's Josh Hardin (31:00.45). UNC Greensboro's Paul Katam was the event's top finisher crossing the line at 30:05.74. The last qualifier in the race finished in 30:37.85, Alexander missed the NCAA Championship qualifying cut by just 18.72 seconds.
Alexander was one of two runners representing the Northeast Conference in the 10,000m on Thursday night. He finished ahead of 38th place Chris Mills (31:59.59) of St. Francis (PA).
The eastern preliminary round was held at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, FL. The top 48 runners in the eastern region qualified for the meet's 10,000m event. Only the 12 best times advance to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, IA in June.
Central Connecticut's women's track & field team will be represented at the NCAA Eastern Preliminary Round by freshman jumper Ronea Saunders tomorrow in the high jump at 5 p.m.
