Alexander, Berube, Radden First Team
The Blue Devils filled 11 spots on the 2012 Outdoor All-NEC List.
The Central Connecticut men's track & field team claimed 11 spots on the 2012 Outdoor Track & Field All-Northeast Conference roster on Wednesday. The Blue Devils sealed four spots on the first team, five on the second team, and two on the All-Rookie Team.
Senior distance runner Sam Alexander received two All-Conference First Team honors. He earned gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m events at the 2012 NEC Outdoor Championships. Alexander won the 10,000m on the first day of competition running the race in a time of 31:36.04. He came back on day two of the conference meet to win the 5,000m event in a time of 14:36.45. Alexander was the only individual track athlete to earn multiple All-NEC First Team honors.
Junior sprinter Aaron Radden won the 200m crossing the line in a time of 21.18. Radden earned First Team All-NEC honors for his performance in the event. He finished .51 seconds ahead of the 200m runner-up. Radden also earned Second Team All-NEC honors for his performance in the 100m taking home the silver medal with a 10.58 time.
Senior Matt Berube excelled in the field for Central earning All-NEC First Team and Second Team honors. The senior jumper's height of 2.04m (6'8.25") in the high jump placed him first at the NEC Outdoor Championship meet which earned him All-NEC First Team honors. Berube earned Second Team All-NEC honors in the long jump with his 7.24m (2'39") distance.
Junior Colby Delbene grabbed a pair of Second Team All-NEC accolades for his performances at the NEC Outdoor Championship meet. Delbene placed second in the 1,500m and 5,000m events crossing the line at 3:50.71 in the 1,500m and 14:39.38 in the 5,000m. Delbene finished right behind fellow Blue Devil Alexander in the 5,000m.
Also named to the All-NEC Second Team was freshman Patrick Hubbell for his 9:22.88 time in the 3,000m Steeplechase.
Freshmen Brian Biekert and Jamal Fruster both represented Central Connecticut on the NEC All-Rookie Team. Fruster was the top freshman performer in the 400m event at the NEC Outdoor Championship meet with a time of 48.01. Biekert ran the 1,500m in a time of 3:58.32.
