Summer Baseball League Update
The Blue Devils have 17 players in collegiate summer leagues and four alumni in the professional ranks.
The Central Connecticut baseball team has 17 players participating in college summer leagues this year. The players are spread across six summer collegiate leagues.
Furthermore, the Blue Devils have four players currently in the professional ranks.
The current list of summer league players and a brief update (through June 18):
FUTURES COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
Tom Curtin - Bristol Blues
Curtin has gone 3-for-3 in save opportunities for the Blues. He has tossed 2.2 innings without allowing a hit and has five strikeouts against one walk.
Mitch Guilmette - Bristol Blues
The All-Northeast Conference First Team selection has played in nine games thus far and is hitting .385 (10-for-26). He has one home run and six runs batted in, while scoring 10 runs.
Nick Garland - Brockton Rox
Garland has played in five contests for the first-place Rox. He has hit .333 (7-for-21) with two RBIs and a run scored. He has three doubles as well.
Chris Kanios - Seacoast Mavericks
Kanios has played in eight games and is 8-for-29 (.276) at the plate. He has scored two runs with a pair of doubles and a triple. He also has two stolen bases.
Ryan Schworer - Seacoast Mavericks
Schworer has made four appearances in relief, tossing 6.1 innings. He has allowed 12 hits and has four strikeouts, while being charged with nine runs.
NEW ENGLAND COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
Dean Lockery - Keene Swampbats
The two-time All-NEC selection has hit .321 (9-for-28) in eight games. He has scored seven runs and has two homeruns with six runs batted in.
Ryan Costello - Keene Swampbats
Costello played in four games before being drafted by the Mariners. He hit .267 (4-for-15) for the Swampbats and had two RBIs and a run scored. Costello has since been assigned to the Arizona League. He hit a home run in his first professional at bat for the defending league champions.
Mike Appel - Mystic Schooners
Appel has tossed 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, in two appearances. He has two strikeouts against one walk.
TT Bowens - Mystic Schooners
Bowens has appeared in eight games and has a pair of hits, including a home run. He has three runs scored and one run batted in, to go with a stolen base.
Ron Grant - Mystic Schooners
Grant has made one start this summer. He toss 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits. He struck out three, while walking just one. His ERA stands at 3.60.
Jared Gallagher - Mystic Schooners
Gallagher has made on relief appearance. He tossed 1.0 inning of perfect relief, recording a strikeout.
NEW YORK COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
Arik Sypher - Rome Generals
Sypher has made two relief appearances, going 1-0, and thrown 8.1 innings. He has allowed no runs on just five hits and has nine strikeouts against no walks.
PERFECT GAME COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
Michael Delease - Adirondack Trailblazers
Delease has made two starts and thrown 13.0 innings. He has allowed six earned runs on 11 hits, while striking out eight and walking six. He has a 4.15 ERA.
Austin Salnitis - Utica Blue Sox
Salnitis has one relief appearance. He tossed 1.0 and was charged for two runs, while striking out two and walking one.
SOUTH FLORIDA COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
Patrick Mitchell - Pompano Beach Clippers
Mitchell has made two appearances, including one start. He has been charged with three runs in 4.0 innings, while striking out three and walking two.
VIRGINIA BEACH COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
James Jakuba - Fightin' Crabs
Jakuba is playing for the Suffolk Fightin' Crabs in the VBCBL, which is in its second season. The league plays through mid-July.
There are also Blue Devils currently playing in the professional ranks.
Casey Brown (Lakewood BlueClaws - Philadelphia Class A) - Brown has made five appearances, tossing 7.0 innings. He has three scoreless outings and six strikeouts against three walks. His record is 1-0 with a 5.14 ERA.
Nick Neumann (Greensboro Grasshoppers - Miami Class A) - Neumann has made two outings for the Grasshoppers and has a 1.42 ERA in 6.1 innings. He has struck out three and walked none, while limiting batters to a .208 average.
Connor Fitzsimons (AZL Angels - Los Angeles Angels Rookie League) - Fitzsimons signed with the Angels in the summer of 2016 and was assigned to the Arizona League. He begins his second season in the league that runs from June 24 to September 1.
Evan Scribner (Seattle Mariners) - Scribner has thrown in eight games this season, but is currently on the 60-day disabled list. He struck out six, while walking none, in 7.1 innings of work before his injury.
J.P. Sportman (Midland RockHounds - Oakland Double-A) - Sportman has played in 64 games and has a .283 average. He has six home runs and 40 runs batted in, while scoring 40 runs and stealing three bags.
