Baseball Drops Series Finale at Oklahoma
The Blue Devils fell, 11-2, on Sunday to the 18th-ranked Sooners.
Central Connecticut dropped the finale of its four-game baseball series at Oklahoma, 11-2, on Sunday. The Blue Devils took an early two-run lead before the 18th-ranked Sooners stormed back to pick up the sweep of the series.
CCSU is now 4-5 on the season, while OU won its 12th straight to improve to 13-1.
Senior Franklin Jennings opened the game with a leadoff trip to left center. He would come home on a fielder's choice by junior Ryan Costello to give Central a 1-0 lead.
Jennings would give CCSU a 2-0 lead in the third when he reached via an error to lead off. Senior Tyler Coleman singled to push Jennings to third. The Sooners would get a groundout double-play, but Jennings would manage to cross home for a two-run Blue Devils lead.
The Sooners would come back with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Quin Walbergh led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice. Kyler Murray followed with a walk and stole second. A throwing error on the play allowed Walbergh to come home and make it 2-1. Steele Walker followed with a two-run homerun to make it 3-2.
Oklahoma got a homerun from Walbergh in the fourth and added two runs in the fifth to extend its lead. The Sooners added five runs in the seventh, highlighted by a Ben Hollas homerun, to close out the scoring.
The Blue Devils would collect six hits on the day, led by Jennings' two hits. Freshman Ron Grant started for CCSU and took the loss. He was charged with six runs in 4.1 innings of work and recorded two strikeouts.
Walker and Jack Flansburg led the Sooners with three hits each. Devon Perez came on in relief for OU to earn the win. He threw 3.0 scoreless innings and alloed just two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
CCSU hosts Hartford for its home-opener on Wednesday, March 8, at 3:00 p.m. on CCSU Baseball Field.
