Hinckley Takes NEC Baseball Pitcher of the Week Honors
Hinckley picked up the win in CCSU's season-opening 3-2 victory over Holy Cross.
Central Connecticut senior Andrew Hinckley was named the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week it was announced on Monday afternoon. Hinckley started and got the win in CCSU's 3-2 win over Holy Cross in the season-opener on Sunday.
Hinckley threw 5.0 innings of one-hit ball against the Patriot League preseason favorites. He struck out seven batters and walked no one en-route to the win. In the season-opening start, the right-hander set down the first 11 Crusaders he faced. Holy Cross' first base-runner came on a hit-by-pitch with two outs in the fourth inning, but Hinckley responded by fanning the next batter for the third out. After Austin Masel broke up Hinckley's no-hit big with a single to lead off the fifth, Hinckley retired the next three hitters in order and left with a 2-0 lead after 5.0 frames of work. Hinckley threw 45 of his 62 pitches for strikes and faced only 17 batters, two over the minimum.
His final line was 5.0 innings, seven strikeouts, one hit allowed, no walks, and no runs allowed. He picked up the win and hit one batter.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday, Feb. 24, when they face South Dakota St. at 11:00 a.m. in Del Ray Beach, FL. CCSU will face Maine at 3:00 p.m. on the same day.
