Baseball Falls at Binghamton in Extra Innings
The Blue Devils travel to Quinnipiac on Tuesday.
Central Connecticut fell to Binghamton, 3-2, in 11 innings on Sunday in the finale of a three-game non-conference series in Vestal, NY. The Bearcats won on a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 11th.
CCSU slips to 22-18 overall on the season, while Binghamton is now 22-9 overall.
Junior Dean Lockery went 3-for-4 with a run scored for Central, while junior Mitch Guilmette added two hits. Junior Ryan Costello and freshman TT Bowens each drove in a run.
Central opened the scoring in the top of the first. Following a Lockery single, freshman Buddy Dewaine reached on a fielder's choice and stole second base. Bowens would deliver a two-out single to left field to score Dewaine and make it 1-0.
The Bearcats tied the game in the second inning with a solo homerun from Brendan Skidmore to make it 1-1.
The teams would each score a run in the sixth inning. After Lockery led off the top of the inning with a double, he would move to third on a sacrifice. Costello would follow with a single to left field to drive Lockery in and make it 2-1.
Binghamton came back in the bottom of the inning with a run. Eddie Posavec led off with a double and moved to third on a fly ball. A two-out single by Skidmore would score the run and make it 2-2.
CCSU would strand a total of five runners on base in the ninth and 10th innings, before the Bearcats took advantage in the 11th. Three straight walks would load the bases to open the inning and Skidmore would hit an infield single to drive in the game-winning run.
Sophomore Mike Appel started and went 5.0 innings for CCSU. He allowed one run on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Sophomore Patrick Mitchell suffered the loss. He went 2.0 innings in relief and was charged with one run, while striking out three.
Jake Miller threw 2.0 shutout innings in relief for BU to get the win. Jacob Wloczewski started and went 6.0 innings. He allowed two runs on six hits, while walking one and striking out nine.
The Bearcats had seven hits as a team, led by Skidmore's 3-for-4, three RBI day.
