Delease Named NEC Baseball Rookie of the Week
The Blue Devils host UMass on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
Central Connecticut freshman Michael Delease was named the Northeast Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday. Delease helped CCSU win three out of four league games over the weekend and improve to 16-12 on the season, including 7-3 in NEC play.
Delease picked up a win in his first career NEC start. The rookie right-hander fired 5.0 scoreless innings to earn the victory in CCSU's 3-0 shutout of LIU Brooklyn on Sunday. Limiting the Blackbirds to three hits and two walks, Delease did not allow a runner to advance past second base. After keeping the Blackbirds hitless for the first 3.0 frames, the first-year Blue Devil surrendered a pair of fourth-inning singles that proved harmless. He allowed two baserunners in the fifth, but used a strikeout and a groundball double play to escape unscathed. Delease, who fanned four batters, threw 51 of his 79 pitches for strikes.
