Dana Named Scholar-Athlete To Highlight NEC Spring Academic Awards
Central Connecticut track and field standout Ashley Dana was named the 2023 Northeast Conference Scholar-Athlete for women's outdoor track and field the conference announced Thursday. The NEC also released its spring Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Honor Roll recipients, which included 96 CCSU student-athletes on the academic list and 24 on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Dana, who was named the NEC Team Student-Athlete of the Year last week, is working towards her Master's Degree in Psychology and has posted a 4.00 GPA in her post graduate studies. As an undergrad she earned a Psychological Science degree, with a 3.88 GPA. She is a 11-time NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll and NEC Academic Honor Roll honoree. She earned Dean's List in eight semesters during her time at CCSU and is a 2022-23 CSC Academic All-Region honoree.
A Durham, CT native, Dana has delivered numerous team championships and individual records over the course of her career. This spring, she earned Co-Most Outstanding Track Performer at the NEC Championships, an honor she took home at the 2022 Indoor Championship. That indoor performance helped CCSU to its first of back-to-back NEC indoor track and field crowns. All told, Dana has won six NEC gold medals during her career and currently hold three individual school records and is part of the school record indoor DMR. She holds the outdoor 800 and 1500 records, as well as the indoor 1000, and has run 10 school records during her career. She has been part of five NEC Cross Country Championships since her arrival in New Britain, capturing the individual crown at the 2020-21 Championship and competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championship. She earned NEC Freshman of the Year honors at the 2018 championship.
All scholar-athlete award winners must have earned a minimum of 60 semester hours at their institution, maintained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team.
Along with the scholar-athletes, the NEC announced its Spring Academic Honor Roll, consisting of 1,332 student-athletes with a 3.20 or better grade point average, the third highest total in conference history. There were also 482 student-athletes named to the Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll, recognizing those superior student-athletes with a 3.75 or better grade point average.
Over the course of the 2022-23 academic year, 3,489 NEC student-athletes landed a spot on the Academic Honor Roll. This figure, which accounts for over two-thirds of all NEC competitors, represents the third-highest number of honorees in conference history. Similarly, the Commissioner's Honor Roll boasted 1,317 student-athletes, marking the second-highest tally ever recorded.
