Women's Outdoor Track and Field Tabbed First in Preseason Poll
The Central Connecticut women's track & field team was picked as the league favorite in the Northeast Conference's annual preseason poll released Tuesday.
The Central Connecticut women's track & field team was picked as the league favorite in the Northeast Conference's annual preseason poll released Tuesday. The Blue Devils are coming off an Indoor NEC Championship and kick off the season this weekend at the Raleigh Relays Meet at NC State.
CCSU placed third in the 2022 NEC Championships but had a number of impressive individual performances from returning athletes including Ashley Dana, Brooke Morabito, and Alissa Hurd.
Dana took silver in the 1,500m race (4:37.36) and collected gold in the 800m race. Morabito finished second in the 10,000 meter race (39:11.90) and third in the 5,000m race (17:50.67). Hurd earned a silver medal in the high jump, leaping for 1.64 meters.
LIU, tabbed second, earned one first place vote in the preseason coaches' poll. Wagner was ranked third and Saint Francis U took the fourth-place spot with two first place votes. Sacred Heart was picked fifth, followed by Merrimack, Stonehill, Saint Francis Brooklyn, and Fairleigh Dickinson to round out the poll.
