Blue Devils Finish Sixth at NEC's
Central's DMR team earned an individual championship at the NEC Championships.
The Central Connecticut women's track & field team captured a sixth place finish at the Northeast Conference Championships this weekend. The team posted 36.5 points in the two day meet finale hosted in Landover, MD finishing right behind fifth place Wagner. Monmouth secured the championship followed by Long Island second, Sacred Heart third, and St. Francis (P.A.) fourth.
The Blue Devil distance medley relay team lead by sophomore Elizabeth Eberhardt, sophomore Shavonne Dash, senior Amanda Asaro, and senior Alasia Griebel claimed an NEC individual championship in the event. The team placed first in a time of 12:03.70.
Griebel also highlighted the one mile event winning the race in a time of 4:52.63, a new CCSU school record and just 0.92 seconds short of the conference record. The win secured Griebel as the one mile NEC individual champion.
Rounding out the top ten in the 3,000m and the 5,000m events was Eberhardt and sophomore Krisztina Dearborn. Both runners finished eighth in their respective events. Eberhardt crossed the line in the 3,000m with a time of 10:17.49 and Dearborn ran the 5,000m in 18:21.48, a personal best time.
Performing in the field for Central was freshman Ronea Saunders and sophomore Jess Davis. Saunders achieved a personal best height in the high jump posting an impressive 1.73m, good for second place. Davis tied for fifth in the pole vault with a height of 2.90m.
The Blue Devils will be back in action on February 24th and 25th at the New England Championships in Boston, MA.
