Women's T&F Place 15th at New Englands
Ronea Saunders led the Blue Devils placing third in the high jump.
The Central Connecticut women's track & field team turned in a 15th place finish on the final day of the New England Championship, a meet comprised of all Division one, two, and three track & field teams in New England with over 40 teams competing on each side. Scoring 19 points, the Blue Devils finished ahead of 16th place Tufts (17) and one point behind 14th place UMASS Amherst (20). UCONN claimed the championship with 123 points. Central's 15h placing marks an improvement from last year's 24th place finish.
Freshman Ronea Saunders performed in the field for Central. Her third place finish in the high jump (5'8.75") earned six points for the Blue Devils, qualifying her for the USA Junior Nationals in June. Saunder's mark also set a new CCSU school record in the event surpassing the previous height of 5'5.5" set by Jackie Adams over two decades ago. Also earning points for Central in the field was senior Amy Sanjurjo. Her fourth place finish in the long jump (17'8.25") gathered five points for the Blue Devils.
Central's distance medley 'A' relay team turned in an impressive third place finish with a time of 11:50.66. Sophomores Elizabeth Eberhardt and Shavonne Dash as well as seniors Amanda Asaro and Alasia Griebel comprised the team which qualified for ECAC's.
Eberhardt, Asaro, Griebel, and freshman Taylor LePage broke the CCSU school record in the 4x800m relay clocking in at 9:22.26.
Freshman Chantelle Deer ran a personal best in the 500m in 1:17.87, good for an eighth place seat. Also posting an eighth place finish was Griebel in the one mile (4:55.60), qualifying her for ECAC's in the event.
