Saunders Wins High Jump at AIC
Central placed seventh at the meet.
The Central Connecticut women's track & field team placed seventh at the AIC Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday posting a score of 53. The Blue Devils finished ahead of eighth place Pace University (2) and behind sixth place Westfield State (59). UMASS Amherst claimed the meet victory stamping a team score of 175.50.
The meet was hosted by AIC and fielded eight teams. It was held at the John G. Hoyt Track & Field Complex in Springfield, MA.
In the field for the Blue Devils, Freshman Ronea Saunders claimed victory in the high jump recording a personal best height of 1.78m. Junior Ahj Meeks placed fifth with a 1.50m jump.
Senior Amy Sanjurjo jumped 5.08m in the long jump and freshman Erin Howe 10.14m in the triple jump. Both athletes placed sixth in their respective events and gathered three points each. Sophomore Jess Davis recorded a 2.75m pole vault placing third and claiming six points.
Central's 4x100m relay team was the runner up in the event clocking in at 49.27. The team gathered eight points for their placing.
Sanjurjo performed on the track as well placing sixth in the 100m with a time of 12.92. Sophomore Meghan Burns capped a seventh place finish in the 400m crossing the line at 1:01.45.
A pair of Blue Devils finished top-ten in the 1,500m, sophomore Elizabeth Eberhardt sixth (4:47.30) and senior Amanda Asaro seventh (4:48.14). Asaro and Eberhardt finished back-to-back again in the 800m. This time, Asaro came in seventh (2:22.54) and Eberhardt eighth (2:22.99).
