Blue Devils Finish Strong at Yale
Freshman Ronea Saunders was the runner-up in the high jump at the Giegengack Invite.
The Central Connecticut women's track & field team finished up an impressive weekend at the Giegengack Invitational on Saturday, February 4th. Day one of the event concluded on Friday, February 3rd. The Unscored meet was held at Yale University at Coxe Cage in New Haven, CT.
On day two, Senior Alasia Griebel and sophomore Jess Davis both claimed CCSU school records at Yale. Griebel chalked up a second place finish in the 800m with a school record time of 2:13.15, breaking Liz Mueller's record time of 2:16.90 set in 1995. Davis became the CCSU pole vault record holder by posting a height of 9'10.00" which sealed a fifth place spot. This height broke the previous record of 9'4.25" set by Sonya Greaves in 2002.
Senior Amy Sanjurjo placed fourth in the 60m (8.02) and seventh in the 200m (26.21). In the 400m, sophomore Meghan Burns crossed the line at 59.62, good for fifth place. Freshman Chantelle Deer bested her own personal record in the 500m with a time of 1:20.63, an eighth place finish. Central saw a pair of fourth place finishes by senior Amanda Asaro in the 1,000m (3:00.12) and sophomore Elizabeth Eberhardt in the one-mile (5:01.79), her personal best.
In the field for the Blue Devils, freshman Ronea Saunders recorded a 5'5.00" height in the high jump placing second and freshman Erin Howe capped a fifth place finish in the triple jump with a personal best distance of 35'5.00".
The Blue Devils return to action on February 11th and 12th at the Northeast Conference Championships in Landover, MD.
