Ronea Saunders and Alasia Griebel were honored by the NEC.
The Northeast Conference released the 2012 Women's Outdoor Track & Field All-NEC Honors on Wednesday. Senior distance runner Alasia Griebel and freshman jumper Ronea Saunders were both honored by the conference.
Saunders was tabbed the NEC's Most Outstanding Rookie for the 2012 outdoor track & field season. The first-year Blue Devil was also named to the All-NEC First Team for her performance at the NEC Outdoor Championship meet in May. Saunders won the high jump with a 1.75m (5'8.75") mark at the meet. Her height broke the NEC meet record as well as the CCSU school record for the event. Saunders was also named to the NEC All-Rookie team.
Griebel earned Second Team All-NEC honors in the 1500m for her second place finish at the NEC Outdoor Championship meet. The senior harrier crossed the line at 4:34.96 earning silver in the event.
Both Saunders and Griebel were recognized as All-NEC team members for the indoor track & field season back in March. Griebel was tabbed First Team All-NEC and Saunders was named to the second team.
