Griebel Tabbed NEC Athlete of the Week
Senior Alasia Griebel earns her first NEC honor of the season.
Senior Alasia Griebel was recognized by the Northeast Conference for her performance at the Giegengack Inviational on February 4th. The senior was named NEC Track Athlete of the Week after breaking yet another CCSU school record in the 800m (2:13.15). She now holds three CCSU women's indoor track & field school records: the 800m, 1,000m (2:56.67), and one-mile (4:54.60) records.
Griebel contested the 800-meter run for the first time this season at the Yale Giegengack Invitational and returned home to Central Connecticut with a program record. The veteran Blue Devil completed the half-mile race in 2:13.15 to catapult herself atop Central's all-time list while pulling into second place on the NEC leader board with the conference championships on the horizon this weekend. Griebel's performance earned her a silver medal at Yale and broke a 16-year old program record by more than 3.0 seconds.
