Women's Track 20th at Great Dane
Senior Alasia Griebel's time in the one-mile broke a Central Connecticut school record.
The Central Connecticut women's track team finished tied for 20th at the Albany Great Dane Classic on Friday night. The Blue Devils posted a team score of three points to tie with Adelphi. The University of Connecticut won the meet with 114.2 points.
Senior Alasia Griebel, the 2011 NEC Cross Country Champion, earned the Blue Devils three points with a sixth place finish in the one-mile run. Griebel posted a time of 4:54.60. Her time set a new school-record. Freshman Shannon McBride placed fourth (5:28.06) in heat one of the one-mile and senior Amanda Asaro fifth (5:10.62) in heat two.
In the field events, freshman Ronea Saunders placed 12th in the high jump by clearing 1.65 meters. Senior Amy Sanjurjo contributed a 16th place finish with a best mark of 5.23 meters in the long jump.
Sophomore Elizabeth Erberhardt was the runner-up in the 3,000m crossing the line at 10:15.84. Her teammate, sophomore Krisztina Dearborn, finished the event in fourth place (10:26.50). Sophomore Megan MacBryde finished the 1,000m in eighth (3:20.82).
Sophomore Meghan Burns capped a fourth place finish (1:00.67)in the third heat of the 400m. In the fifth heat, Sophomore Shavonne Dash found the finish line at (1:00.13), good for sixth place.
Relay teams for Central finished one after the other in the 4x400m relay. Burns, freshman Chantelle Deer, junior Rachel Dombrowski, and freshman Olivia Hayward crossed the finish line at 4:06.38, good for 18th. Griebel, Asaro, Dash, and senior Kate McGuire followed that up with a 19th place finish (4:07.25).
