Saunders Places 30th at NCAA Prelim
Ronea Saunders registered a 1.72m (5'7.75") mark in the high jump on Friday.
Central Connecticut freshman jumper Ronea Saunders competed in the NCAA Eastern Preliminary round of the NCAA Championships on Friday. The first year Blue Devil jumped to a 1.72m (5'7.75") mark in the high jump which placed her 30th overall.
Saunders missed the NCAA Championship qualifying cut by just two inches. The last qualifier for the NCAA Championships was Louisville's Maggie Gilbertson 1.77m (5'9.75"). The event's top finisher was Boston University's Allison Barwise who marked down a 1.81m (5'11.25") jump.
The top 48 high jumpers in the eastern region qualify for a bid to the 2012 NCAA Eastern Preliminary round. Only the top 12 finishers in the event will advance to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, IA this June.
This weekend's meet is being held at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, FL from May 24th to May 26th and will serve as the eastern region preliminary round to the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
