Griebel, Sanjurjo Break School Marks
Seniors Alasia Griebel and Amy Sanjurjo both had record setting performances today at UConn. Griebel broke the CCSU 1000 meter run record and Sanjurjo the long jump record.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track & field team fell to Southern Connecticut today at the UConn Invitational. Southern posted a score of 70 followed by Central who scored 33. The University of Connecticut did not compete in the event which was held in Storrs, CT.
Senior Alasia Griebel broke the CCSU 1000 meter run school record with an impressive time of 3:00.57. The previous record, 3:00.91, was held by Ashley Hill in 2006. Senior Amy Sanjurjo headlined the jumping events breaking the CCSU long jump record with a distance of 5.65m. Sanjurjo broke her own record set back in 2010 (5.58m).
Sanjurjo claimed the second seat in the 55 meter dash posting a time of 7.44. Freshman Olivia Hayward snagged the four spot (7.63).
In the 400 meter dash, sophomore Megan Burns finished second crossing the finish line at 1:02.00.
A trio of Blue Devils took the second, third, and fourth place seats in the 600 meter run: freshman Chantelle Deer (1:45.15), senior Kate McGuire (1:46.30), and sophomore Shavonne Dash (1:47.21) respectively.
In another record setting performance, sophomore Krisztina Dearborn set a personal record of 5:30.40 in the 1 mile run, proceeding to win the event.
In the 55 meter hurdles, freshman Ronea Saunders crossed the line at the 9.35 mark, good for third place. Saunders was also the runner up in the high jump posting a height of 1.65m.
Central's 'A' team finished second (6:19.02) in the 2200 sprint medley.
Sophomore Jess Davis placed fifth (2.75m) in the pole vault.
Central will look to bounce back at the Yale Invitational on Saturday, January 14. The event will be held at Yale in New Haven, CT.
