Freshman JP Sportman Named Akadema/Northeast Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week
Central Connecticut freshman J.P. Sportman was named the Akadema/Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday. Sportman and the Blue Devils took three of four from Mount St. Mary's over the weekend, improving to 9-7 in league play.

Mary's over the weekend, improving to 9-7 in league play.
Sportman reached base in all of Central Connecticut's five games
last week, ending with an offensive eruption against Mount St.
Mary's. Sportman, who accounted for a .529 on-base percentage
during the five-game sample that resulted in four CCSU victories,
went 5-for-7 with four RBI and three runs scored during the back
end of the Blue Devils' four-game NEC series against the
Mount.
The rookie shortstop produced an RBI single and came around to
score during Central's five-run first inning in Game 3, an eventual
7-4 win. In the series finale, which Central took by an 11-3
score, Sportman went 4-for-4 with a RBI triple and a double.
For the week, Sportman batted .500 (8-for-16) with four RBI, four
runs scored, three extra-base hits, a walk, and a stolen base. He
went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored in a 7-5 mid-week win
over MAAC member Iona. He reached base on a fifth-inning single in
the series opener against the Mount before walking and stealing a
base in Game 2.
