Baseball Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader at Long Island
The Central Connecticut baseball team swept a doubleheader on the road at Long Island on Saturday afternoon. Central won the first game 10-2 and the second 8-0. With the pair of wins the Blue Devils move to 25-23-1 overall and 17-14 in Northeast Conference play. The two teams will finish the weekend series on Sunday at 12 p.m. Central has qualified for next week's NEC Tournament, and will be the #4 seed.

first game 10-2 and the second 8-0. With the pair of wins the Blue
Devils move to 25-23-1 overall and 17-14 in Northeast Conference

In game one, freshman J.P.
Sportman's two-RBI double with the bases loaded in the first
inning for Central on the board for the first time in the series.
Classmate Anthony
Turgeon followed with a two-RBI single in the same inning to
make it 4-0. The Blackbird got a run in the bottom of the inning
to make it 4-1.
In the third inning senior Pat Epps
singled followed by another single from Turgeon. Freshman Dylan
DelaCruz doubled to right center field to score both runners
and up the lead to 6-1. A run in the bottom of the inning for Long
Island made it 6-2.
Sportman's second RBI of the game, a sacrifice fly in the fourth
inning, made it 7-2.
Junior Mitch
Wells drove in a run in the fifth with a single, the third hit
of the inning for the Blue Devils. The lead reached 10-2 on a
sacrifice fly from Epps and when Wells scored after senior Sean
Miller-Jones stole second base.
Senior lefty Dave
Krasnowiecki picked up the victory on the mound, improving to
5-4 on the season. He becomes the third Blue Devil to win five
games this season. He pitched six innings allowing two runs on
five hits while striking out five.
Central won the second game 8-0. They scored three runs in the
fourth inning and five more in the sixth to claim the doubleheader
sweep. Todd
Savatsky went the distance and improved to 6-4 on the season
with the shutout. He allowed only four hits and struck out six in
the victory.
Wells finished the game with three hits and an RBI. DelaCruz added
two more hits and scored two runs. Designated hitter Tyler
McIntyre had a pair of RBI. Sportman and Miller-Jones each
drove in one run.
The Blue Devils and Blackbirds will complete the weekend series
with a single game on Sunday at noon.
Central has qualified for the NEC Tournament, being held next
weekend in Norwich, CT at Dodd Stadium. The Blue Devils will be
the #4 seed and play top seed Monmouth in the first game of the
tournament on Thursday.
