Baseball Drops Series Opener to Mount St. Mary's on Friday
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped to 10-12-1 overall and 6-7 in Northeast Conference play following a 3-2 loss to Mount St. Mary's on Friday afternoon. The game was the first in the weekend series between the two teams. Saturday they will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a single nine-inning game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

St. Mary's on Friday afternoon. The game was the first in the
weekend series between the two teams. Saturday they will play a
doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a single nine-inning
game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Mount struck first with a single run in the top of the fourth
inning. With a man on first an noone out, Mark Quaranta doubled
down the right field line to give the visitors the 1-0 lead.
Central tied the score in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one
out, freshman Dylan
DelaCruz scored on a throwing error by the Mount shortstop,
tying the score 1-1.
The Blue Devils loaded the bases with one out in the sixth inning
but were unable to get a run across the board. A foul out and a
strikeout ended the threat.
The Mountaineers took a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning on an RBI
fielder's choice from Zach Helman. Senior Sean
Miller-Jones tied the score at 2-2 with his first home run of
the season to lead off the bottom of the inning.
Mount's Tommy Flynn led off the ninth with a solo home run to right
field.
Central starter Todd
Savatsky pitched 8.0 innings allowing nine hits, three runs and
striking out four. He falls to 3-2 on the season. Matuszak
finished the game with three hits. Miller-Jones hit his first home
run of the season and drove in one.
The Blue Devils and the Mount continue their weekend series with a
doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
