Baseball Splits a Pair of Games on Saturday
The Central Connecticut baseball team split a pair of games on the road on Saturday at the Naval Academy. Central dropped a 5-2 decision to George Washington in the first game of the day, before bouncing back to beat Binghamton 8-7 in the afternoon game. Freshman J.P. Sportman hit a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning to top the Bearcats.

the road on Saturday at the Naval Academy. Central dropped a 5-2
decision to George Washington in the first game of the day, before
bouncing back to beat Binghamton 8-7 in the afternoon game.

Sportman hit a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning
to top the Bearcats.
The Blue Devils and Binghamton will play again in a single game on
Sunday at George Washington. The Blue Devils will wrap up the trip
with a single game against George Washington on Monday.
George Washington took a 1-0 lead with a single run in the second
inning off of Blue Devil starter Nick
Neumann.
Central took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning one a
two-run RBI single from junior Mitch
Wells. Wells finished the game with a pair of hits and the two
RBI.
GW scored one in the fifth to tie the game, and then two more in
the seventh inning to take the 5-2 lead.
Neumann pitched 6.2 innings allowing five runs while striking out
four. Chris
Renzoni pitched 2.1 innings of relief without allowing a hit
while also fanning four.
The Blue Devils used a five-run ninth inning to win the second game
of the day, 8-7, over Binghamton. That game was also played at the
Naval Academy and marked the first victory of the season for the
Blue Devils.
Down 7-3, Central scored five runs, three of them unearned, in the
final inning to come away with the victory. Sportman's single with
two outs in the ninth inning scored two, including the game-winner,
and completed the comeback.
Wells and Dylan Delacruz also drove in two runs in the victory for
the Blue Devils. Todd
Savatsky earned the victory in relief, pitching .2 innings
without allowing a hit.
