Baseball Wins at Home Over Iona, 7-5
The Central Connecticut baseball team improved to 10-11-1 overall on the season with a 7-5 win over visiting Iona on Wednesday afternoon. The game is the first at home for the Blue Devils in the last two weeks. They will play 13 of their next 15 games at home. They begin a weekend series on Friday at home hosting Mount St. Mary's at 3 p.m.

Central led 1-0 after the first inning on a sacrifice from senior
Pat
Epps. Junior Jake
Matuszak singled to lead off the inning and scored on the
play. The lead reached 6-0 in the second inning as the first seven
Blue Devils reached base and five of them scored. Sophomore Tyler
McIntyre hit his first career home run, a two run shot to begin
the scoring. Senior Sean
Miller-Jones singled in two more runs and a fifth scored on a
double play.
The Gaels scored five times in the seventh inning, including a solo
home run from designated hitter Chris Burke, to cut the lead to
6-5.
Central made it 7-5 on an RBI single from freshman Dylan
DelaCruz in the bottom of the seventh.
Matuszak finished the game with four hits and a pair of runs
scored. Miller-Jones and McIntyre each drove in two. DelaCruz had
a pair of hits and an RBI and freshman J.P.
Sportman added two hits.
Junior Harry
Glynne came into the game in the first inning and pitched
another 3.2 innings, facing only 10 batters and allowing just one
hit to earn the victory. He struck out one. Freshman Josh
Ingham pitched the final two innings to pick up his second save
of the season.
The Blue Devils return to Northeast Conference action this weekend
hosting Mount St. Mary's beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. The two
teams will also play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and a
single game on Sunday, also at 1 p.m.
