Baseball Drops 16-14 Home Decision to Connecticut on Wednesday
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a 16-14 home decision to visiting Connecticut on Wednesday afternoon in New Britain. The two teams combined for 30 runs, 34 hits and seven errors and the game lasted three hours and 15 minutes. With the loss the Blue Devils fall to 19-17-1 overall. The Huskies are now 29-12-1 with the victory. Central returns to action on Friday at Quinnipiac at 3 p.m.

Central took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from
senior Pat
Epps. UConn took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on a two-run
single from Billy Ferriter.
The Blue Devils took a 4-2 lead after a three-run third inning.
Epps drove in his second run of the game, and then the Blue Devils
score twice on an RBI single by freshman Anthony
Turgeon. A second run scored on the play after a throwing
error by the Huskies.
The Central lead reached 8-2 in the fourth inning. Junior Jake
Matuszak tripled home the first run and then freshman Dylan
DelaCruz hit a two-run home run, his first career
round-tripper, to push the lead to five. An RBI single from senior
Sean
Miller-Jones capped the scoring.
The Huskies got a run in the fifth to make it 8-3. The more runs
in the fifth gave the Blue Devils an 11-3 lead. A pair of UConn
errors helped give Central the eight-run lead. Matuszak, DelaCruz
and junior Mitch
Wells all drove in runs in the inning.
The Huskies scored five in the sixth to cut the lead to 11-8.
George Springer had a three-run home run in the inning as the
Huskies had four hits, including two home runs.
Central scored three in the bottom of the inning. A two-run RBI
double from sophomore Andy
Lalli and an RBI from Matuszak gave Central the 14-8 edge. A
four run inning, including a second three-run home run by Springer,
cut the lead to 14-12 in the seventh. A two-run home run from Tom
Verdi and an RBI single from L.J. Mazzilli gave the Huskies the
15-14 lead in the eighth.
A run in the ninth made it 16-14 in favor of the Huskies.
Turgeon and Matuszak each had three hits for the Blue Devils in the
loss. Matuszak and DelaCruz each drove in three runs, while Epps
and Lalli each drove in two.
Central returns to action on Friday on the road at Quinnipiac
beginning at 3 p.m.
