Baseball Wins Weekend Series With Sunday Win Over
The Central Connecticut baseball team claimed the weekend series vs. Mount St. Mary's with an 11-3 victory at home on Sunday afternoon. Central used 15 hits to score its 11 runs and won the series winning three of four from the Mount. With the win the Blue Devils are now 13-12-1 overall and 9-7 in Northeast Conference play.
The Central Connecticut baseball team claimed the weekend series
vs. Mount St. Mary's with an 11-3 victory at home on Sunday
afternoon. Central used 15 hits to score its 11 runs and won the
series winning three of four from the Mount. With the win the Blue
Devils are now 13-12-1 overall and 9-7 in Northeast Conference
play.
Mount struck first with a single run in the top of the first inning
off of Blue Devil freshman starter Tom
Coughlin. The Mount's Anthony Caron drove in a run in the
third with a single to up the lead to 2-0.
Central tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the
fourth inning. Both runs came with two outs. Freshman J.P.
Sportman tripled to score the first run and then scored on an
RBI double off the bat of sophomore Tyler
McIntyre, making it 2-2.
The Mount took a 3-2 lead on an RBI single from Zach Helman in
the sixth inning.
The Blue Devils took their first lead of the day in the bottom of
the inning. With men on second and third, Sportman singled up the
middle to score two. McIntyre followed with an RBI triple to make
it 5-3.
A five-run seventh inning gave the Blue Devils a 10-3 lead. Senior

Miller-Jones hit a three-run home run to cap the scoring in the
inning. Classmate Pat Epps
also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Junior Mitch Wells drove in a run in the eighth to make it 11-3.
He finished the game with four hits and the RBI. Sportman and
Miller-Jones each drove in three. Sportman had four hits and
scored twice.
Coughlin picked up the win on the mound, pitching six innings
allowing three runs. He is now 2-1 on the season.
The Blue Devils return to action hosting Holy Cross on Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m. on the CCSU campus.
