Baseball Sweeps Mount St. Mary's in Saturday Doubleheader
The Central Connecticut baseball team swept a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in New Britain against Mount St. Mary's. The Blue Devils won the first game 4-0 behind a three-hit shutout from senior Dave Krasnowiecki. They built and early lead in game two and held on to win 7-4. With the sweep Central is now 12-12-1 overall and 8-7 in Northeast Conference play.

Blue Devils won the first game 4-0 behind a three-hit shutout from

Krasnowiecki. They built and early lead in game two and held
on to win 7-4. With the sweep Central is now 12-12-1 overall and
8-7 in Northeast Conference play.
In game one the Blue Devils struck early with a run in the first
inning. Junior Jake
Matuszak led off the inning with a triple to deep left center
field. He scored on an RBI groundout from freshman Dylan
DelaCruz.
The lead reached 2-0 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from senior Pat
Epps. With one out in the inning DelaCruz singled and junior
Mitch
Wells doubled to put runners on second and third. Epps drove
in the run.
In the sixth, sophomore Andy
Lalli singled with one out and scored on an RBI double off the
bat of classmate Tyler
McIntyre. With two outs Matuszak singled through the left side
to score the second run of the inning and make it 4-0.
Wells had two doubles and DelaCruz added a pair of singles to pace
the offense. Matuszak added two hits and an RBI. Krasnowiecki
pitched a complete game to earn his second win of the year. He
allowed only three hits and struck out seven for his first shutout
of the season.
Central used a big first inning to take a 5-0 lead in game two.
All five runs came with two outs in the inning. Senior Sean
Miller-Jones and freshman J.P.
Sportman each had RBI singles to give the Blue Devils the
lead. Both scored on a three-run home run from McIntyre, his
second of the year.
Two more runs in the second made it 7-0. DelaCruz's drove in a run
with a single and Epps doubled in the second run of the inning.
The Mount scored an unearned run in the fourth to cut the lead to
7-1. They added two more unearned runs in the fifth, and an RBI
single from Brandon Scott in the sixth cut the lead to 7-4.
Sophomore Nick
Neumann pitched six innings and allowed just one earned run to
pick up his second victory of the season. He struck out five but
was plagued by four errors in the field by the Blue Devils.
Freshman Josh
Ingham picked up his third save of the season pitching the
seventh inning.
The Blue Devils and Mountaineers will complete the weekend series
on Sunday with a single game beginning at 1 p.m.
