Volleyball Drops Two on Saturday

Volleyball was unable to pick up a win in Saturday's contests against Maryland and Virginia.

After getting swept by Maryland, the Blue Devils pushed Virginia to four sets before dropping the fourth.

Game 1 CCSU (0-2, 0-0 NEC), Maryland (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten)

Game 2 CCSU (0-3, 0-0 NEC), Virginia (2-1, 0-0 ACC)

 

GAME ONE KEY MOMENTS

  • CCSU played its best ball in the first set against Maryland. The Blue Devils were a point away from taking it (24-22), but the Terrapins used a 4-0 run to take back the lead and set.
  • Maryland jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the second set and did not look back from there. They lead by as much as ten and took set two 25-15.
  • Both teams kept it close through the first half of set three, but Maryland snapped off a 6-0 run that pushed them to a 25-16.

GAME TWO KEY MOMENTS

  • The Blue Devils held a lead through most of the first set against Virginia. They scored on four service aces in the first and had a 22-21 lead before Virginia was able to snap off a 4-1 run to clinch the first.
  • Freshman Nyjha Marcelin had a team high four kills in the second set. The Blue Devils were able to draw within two late, but Virginia again used a late push to take the second set 25-21.
  • With their backs against the wall in set three, the Blue Devils opened things up with an early lead. Virginia stormed back to tie things up at 21, but CCSU went on a 6-2 run to force a fourth set.
  • After going point-for-point to start the fourth, Virginia went on a 10-2 run to seperate from the Blue Devils. CCSU was unable to combat the Cavaliers' offensive attack and dropped the fourth set 25-20.

NUMBERS TO KNOW

26 Senior Emma Henderson recorded a double-double against Virginia with 12 kills and 11 digs. This marks the 26th double-double at Central.

24 Marcelin had 24 kills over Saturday's two games. She lead the Blue Devils in kills in both matches.

OF NOTE

  • Marcelin represented CCSU on the All-Tournament Team.

UP NEXT

The Blue Devils will be back in action on September 3 when they take place in the UConn Challenge Tournament.
