Northeast Conference Releases Preseason Poll for Volleyball
The Northeast Conference released its Preseason Coaches Poll for the upcoming volleyball season Thursday. Central Connecticut was voted into the fourth spot among the eight teams competing this season.
Afer getting four matches cancelled last season due to the pandemic, the Blue Devils finished the year with a 4-4 record against NEC opponents. The field of teams that made the NEC Tournament was reduced to just the top two teams last year for health and safety concerns, meaning CCSU was edged out of the postseason.
Senior Emma Henderson and junior Isabelle Roufs were both selected to the All-Northeast Conference Second Team last season.
Linda Sagnelli will be at the helm for her 22nd season as head coach of the Blue Devils. She has 326 wins under her belt.
Sacred Heart was a unanimous number one pick this year after going a perfect 10-0 last season. The Red Flash could not compete in the NEC Championship due to positive COVID-19 test results within the team's tier one personnel, sending the runner up Long Island University to the NCAA Tournament.
LIU was tabbed second in the poll after posting an 8-6 record last season.
CCSU volleyball will start its season off against Hofstra on August 27. This match will be the first of three for CCSU as they play in the Maryland Invite.
