Volleyball Drops Season Opener Against Hofstra
Central Connecticut volleyball took Hofstra to the wire in its season opener on Friday, but were ultimately bested in five sets. The Blue Devils handidly took the first two sets and had Hofstra against the ropes in the third, but the Pride were able to answer back with three straight set wins.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Pride came out of the gates hot in the first set, opening up the game on a 6-0 run. The Blue Devils were able to storm back from this deficit with a 13-3 run that gave the team its first lead of the afternoon. Central put together a few more good runs before forcing an attack error and taking the first set.
- After trading leads throughout the second set, senior Emma Henderson finished off the set with a kill. She finished second in kills (9) for the day behind freshman Nyjha Marcelin (12).
- There were 20 different times that the score was tied in the third set. The Blue Devils were one point away from taking the match in a sweep, but Hofstra was able to stay alive with a kill. Momentum swung back and forth after this with neither team letting up on the other. The score went back-and-forth like this all the way to 33-33 befofe Hofstra was able to take the set 35-33.
- After Hofstra took the fourth set, CCSU fought to within two points of the lead in the deciding fifth set, but were bested 15-10.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
23 Senior Ashlyn Eisenga had 23 digs on the day to lead the Blue Devils. Last season she had four matches with 20+ digs.
13 The Blue Devils had 13 service aces against the Pride. Henderson and freshman outside hitter Isabella Bratzke led the charge with four each.
The Blue Devils will finish out the Maryland Invite with two more games on Saturday. The first will be at 1 p.m. against Maryland.
