Men's Soccer Falls at LIU in NEC Opener

The Central Connecticut men's soccer team dropped its Northeast Conference opener on Sunday, falling at LIU, 1-0, in Brookville, NY. The Sharks scored the only goal of the game on a penalty kick in the second half.

KEY MOMENTS

  • The Blue Devils defense stood tall in the first half, keeping the NEC's top scoring team off the board. Daniel Wilmore made a pair of saves, while Giulio Potenti had a shot off a CCSU corner blocked by the LIU defense.
  • LIU controlled the ball for much of the early going in the second half. Austin Rocke would get a shot for CCSU off a corner kick, but his attempt went high.
  • The game's only goal came in the 67th minute when a LIU cross was judged to have been a hand ball against Central inside the penalty area. Emil Jaaskelainen would send his kick to the left side, sending the keeper the wrong way, to make it 1-0.
  • The Blue Devils were held to one shot over the final 23-plus minutes, but it was off target. 

NUMBER TO KNOW

0 - For the second straight game, CCSU was tied at halftime on the road in a scoreless contest. Both games were decided by a second half goal.
