Men's Soccer Rally Falls Short at Howard on Sunday

The Central Connecticut men's soccer was dealt a 2-1 setback at Howard on Sunday in Northeast Conference action in Washington, DC. The Bison took advantage of scoring a pair of first half goals to hold off CCSU in the second half.

KEY MOMENTS

  • The Blue Devils had the first shot of the game in the 6th minute when Sean Gannon took a chance off a free kick that was stopped by the goalkeeper. The Bison would open the scoring just over three minutes later when Nigel McCloud took a pass from Nathan Leggett and put a shot high-center to make it 1-0 at 9:56.
  • Howard doubled its lead at 18:30 off a shot by Mason Christian to the lower left off another assist by Leggett to make it 2-0. 
  • Brian Son had a shot on target for CCSU in the opening minutes of the second half as the Blue Devils would look to level the score. Central's offensive pressure was unable to find a goal until being awarded a penalty in the final minute. Giulio Potenti would convert the opportunity to make it 2-1.

NOTES

  • Daniel Wilmore made four saves in goal for the Blue Devils.
  • Central held a 16-10 advantage in shots, including an 11-3 edge in the second half. The Blue Devils also had a 6-3 lead in corner kicks.
  • Gannon had five shots, while Potenti and Birk Martinsen each had three.
  • The goal by Potenti ended a stretch of 409:19 without a goal for CCSU.
  • CCSU and Howard were meeting for the fourth time. CCSU leads the all-time series, 2-1-1.
