
Men's Basketball Slowed at UMass on Wednesday
The Central Connecticut men's basketball team was unable to overcome a scoring run to open the second half and lost at UMass, 89-60, on Wednesday at the Mullins Center in Amherst, MA. The Blue Devils were held scoreless in the opening three minutes of the second half as the Minutemen would score 16 unanswered points.
Jayden Brown led a trio of Blue Devils in double-figures with 15 points. Abdul Momoh and Tre Breland added 11 and 10 points, respectively. CCSU shot 18-of-53 (.340) overall and was 7-of-22 (.318) from three-point range. Central was 17-of-22 (.773) at the foul line.
UMass had three scorers in double-figures and shot 35-of-58 (.603) overall from the field. The Minutemen were 8-of-21 (.381) from three-point range and 11-of-15 (.733) from the foul line.
The Blue Devils travel to Army West Point on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central would be held without a field goal in the opening five minutes as UMass built an early 9-3 lead. After Allan Jeanne-Rose hit 1-of-2 free throws on CCSU's opening possession, the Minutemen would score nine straight points. Central would miss its first five field goal attempts until Tre Breland hit a three-pointer to make it 10-6.
- The Blue Devils would find themselves within a point midway through the opening half. CCSU would outscore UMass, 10-5, over a nearly-five minute span. A dunk by Abdul Momoh and layup by Jay Rodgers would open the spurt before back-to-back trifectas by Breland would make it 17-16 at the 10:15 mark.
- The Minutemen would hold CCSU scoreless over a three-minute span and scored seven unanswered points to push its lead to seven. A bucket down low by Breland would end the Central scoring drought. UMass would connect on five straight field goals at one point and stretched its lead to double-figures, while limiting Central to just one field goal in the final 5:00 of the period. Momoh hit a pair of foul shots just before the half to make it 39-27 at halftime.
- UMass scored six points in the opening 1:25 of the second half to push its lead to 45-27 and force a CCSU timeout. UMass increased its run to 16-0 to begin the second half as Central was held scoreless for the opening 3:18 until a three-point play by Davonte Sweatman would get CCSU on the board in the second half with 16:42 to play.
- A putback layup by Jayden Brown would make it 64-40 with 11:28 remaining, but Central was unable to recover from the opening minutes of the second half and the game would not get closer..

NOTES
- UMass has won four straight meetings and is 9-7 all-time in the series.
- Brown finished with a season-high 15 points. He went 6-of-7 from the foul line and scored 12 points after halftime.
- Momoh matched a career-high with 11 points and was 6-of-6 at the foul line. He added two blocked shots.
- Breland scored all 10 of his points in the opening 20 minutes when he hit three three-pointers.
- Kellen Amos grabbed a season-high six rebounds and gave out a career-best seven assists against just one turnover.
