
Swimming And Diving Remains Atop NEC Leader Board
The Blue Devils are 61 points in front of Howard with one day of competition remaining
The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team remains atop the team scores following the third day of the 2025 Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving Championship.
The Blue Devils have totaled 550.5 points and Howard remains in second place at 489.5 points. Saint Francis moved into third place with 368.5 points, 0.5 points in front of fourth-place Wagner. LIU is fifth with 309 points, followed by Le Moyne (145) and Stonehill (134.5)
The final day of the four-day championship, at the Spire Institute in Geneva, OH, resumes with prelims at 10:00 am. The events on Saturday are the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 1,650 freestyle.
100 BUTTERFLY
- Lauryn Cowing went 57.16 to snag fifth place and finish as the top Blue Devil in the event, and Megan Dunnigan went 57.36 to finish seventh
- Veronica Okurowski won the C Final, slicing 1.11 seconds off of her prelim swim and went 58.33 Friday night
- Jillena Plowucha (59.10) was .34 seconds faster and finished 19th while Hannah Kretkowski was .45 faster and placed 22nd
400 IM
- Gabi Wroblewski finished fifth in the 400 IM, going 4:33.21
- Kyla Behrle shaved more than a second from her preliminary swim and placed 11th, moving up a spot in the final 50 and finished with a swim of 4:42.85
- Marley Milne was also faster in the evening session, going 4:45.46 to earn 13th place
200 FREESTYLE
- CCSU accumulated 52 points, with four swimming in the championship heat
- Gabby Spaciano was the top Blue Devil, going 1:53.50, more than half a second faster than her morning effort, to earn fourth and Abbey Keane finished fifth, touching at 1:54.17
- Maggie Rutledge went .65 seconds faster in the final heat, finishing seventh with a 1:55.08 and Taylor DeMarest rounded out the effort in eighth at 1:57.20
- Lauren Lord finished fourth in the C Final, going 1:58.91 and Sophia Pincince was 24th overall with a nighttime swim of 2:03.27
100 BREASTSTROKE
- Grace Young won the consolation final of the breaststroke, with a time of 1:05,84, moving up from 12th place in the qualifying heats
- Julia Herbert added a point with her 16th place finish, going 1:09.04
- Okurowski took fourth, 20th overall, in the C Final, with a swim of 1:09.07
100 BACKSTROKE
- Katrine O'Leary was 0.2 seconds faster than this morning and finished fourth at 56.23, .07 seconds out of a tie for silver
- Megan Dunnigan won the consolation final, leading from start to finish, with a time of 57.08, .45 seconds faster
- Sophie Milhomens battled to the wall, getting her hand to the wall right in front of the third-place finisher, at the wall, placing 10th with a swim of 57.66
400 MEDLEY RELAY
- The Blue Devils finished fifth with a time of 3:52.19
- Milhomens led off with a backstroke split of 57.35 and Young followed on the breaststroke leg, with a 1:05.93 split
- Cowing split 57.11 on the butterfly leg and Dunnigan split 51.80 on the anchor leg
PRELIM NOTES
100 BUTTERFLY
- All five Blue Devil entrants earned evening swims in the days first event
- Central qualified two swimmers, Lauryn Cowing (5th) and Megan Dunnigan (7th) into the championship final
- Jillena Plowucha and Veronica Okurowski swam matching 59.44 times and qualified 20th, and will be joined the C final by Hannah Kretkwoski who is 23rd at 59.56
400 IM
- Gabi Wroblewski, the defending champion in the event, led the Blue Devils by earning the third seed in the championship final, swimming a time of 4:30.34
- Kyla Behrle (4:44.07) and Marley Milne (4:45.68) both earned consolation final berths, qualifying 11th and 13th respectively
200 FREESTYLE
- The Blue Devils qualified four swimmers into the championship final and all six entrants will swim in evening heats
- Gabby Spaciano was the Blue Devils top qualifier, swimming 1:54.19 to be the four-seed
- Abbey Keane qualified fifth with a swim of 1:54.42, while Maggie Rutledge is the six-seed after a swim of 1:55.73
- Taylor DeMarest closed well to earn the final berth in the championship heat, with a 1:56.35
- Lauren Lord (1:58.82) and Sophia Pincince (2:03.21) will both swim in the C Final Friday evening
100 BREASTSTROKE
- Three Blue Devils earned evening swims in the event, led by Grace Young who touched at 1:06.58 and is the 12th seed, swimming in the consolation final
- Julia Herbert went 1:07.01 to place 14th in the morning session and will also swim in the consolation final
- Veronica Okurowski went 1:08.77 and swims in the C Final
100 BACKSTROKE
- Katrine O'Leary qualified third in the event, going 56.44, to highlight the preliminary swims for Central
- Megan Dunnigan (57.53) and Sophie Milhomens (57.62) are seeded ninth and 10th respectively in the consolation final
- Amelia Cieslik placed 30th, swimming 1:33.08
