Swimming And Diving Wins Eight Individual Races at Friday Night Sprints
The Blue Devils also won both swimming relays and the diving relay
The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team hosted Friday Night Sprints at Suydam Natatorium on Friday. Southern Connecticut State and the University of St. Joseph's participated in the event. The meet was not scored
The Blue Devils took eight individual first places, won both swimming relays and the diving relay.
CCSU returns to dual meet action on November 23rd with a 12:00 pm meet at Stony Brook.
FREESTYLE
- Maggie Rutledge captured the top spot in the 200 freestyle, going 1:59.59
- Abbey Keane touched second in the 200 freestyle, going 2:00.39
- Katrine O'Leary was the top finisher in the 50 freestyle, clocking in at 24.87, while Gabby Spaciano was third at 25.92
- Spaciano was the top finisher in the 100 freestyle, with a swim of 54.37 and the Blue Devils took the top-five spots in the event
STROKES
- Megan Dunningan was the runner-up in the 50 backstroke, going 28.65
- Sophie Milhomens won the 100 fly, leading a 1-2-3 sweep, with a time of 1:01.04
- Jillena Plowucha (1:02.39) and Kyla Behrle (1:02.50) were second and third in the 100 fly
- Grace Young won the 100 breaststroke (1:08.78) with Julia Herbert finishing second at 1:09.58
- Lauryn Cowing was the runner-up in the 50 fly, with a swim of 27.06, while Dunnigan when 27.18 for third place
- Young picked up another win in the 50 breaststroke, with a swim of 32.00, just in front of Herbert, who went 32.22
- O'Leary won the 100 IUM with a swim of 1:01.88, just in front of Cowing (1:02.21) and Milhomens (1:02.77)
DIVING
- The A relay of Zoe Baker, Jewelle Mazairz and Rachel Giroux took first with 225.69 points
- The diving relay is a new NCAA Championship event in which three divers combine for six-dives, on either board, with the highest total of the six dives winning
- Kaitlyn Carroll and Kristen Krause took second on the relay, with 217.6 points
- Carroll had the top individual score
RELAYS
- Milhomens (28.10), Young (31.46), Cowing (27.90) and O'Leary (22.84) led a 1-2 sweep in the 200 medley relay, winning with a time of 1:50.30
- O'Leary (26.10), Cowing (25.23), Dunnigan (25.18) and Spaciano (24.85) were the top team in the 200 freestyle, going 1:41.36 to capture the victory.
