Swimming & Diving Leads SHU After First Day
O'Leary, Milhomens both win twice on Saturday
The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team completed the first day of a two-day dual meet with Sacred Heart with a 97-89 advantage. The meet concludes Sunday at Suydam Natatorium beginning at noon.
STROKES
- Katrine O'Leary won the 100-backstroke, finishing 58.86, nearly 1.5 seconds in front of the runner-up
- Sophie Milhomens won the 200-butterfly making up more than half a second in the final 50-yards, winning by 0.10 with a swim of 2:09.57
- Grace Young was the runner-up in the 100-breaststroke, going 1:09.10
- Milhomens won again to lead a 1-2 finishing the 200 IM, touching at 2:13.80, with Gabi Wroblewski in second at 2:15.96
DIVING
- Kaitlyn Carroll took third with a 230.48-point effort on the 1-meter board
- Zoe Baker finished fifth for the Blue Devils, with a score of 225.68
FREESTYLE
- O'Leary found her second individual win in the 50-freestyle, going 24.88, just in front
- Abbey Keane cruised to the top-spot in the 1,650-freestyle, finishing at 17:42.51, to lead a 1-2-4 effort for the Blue Devils
- Taylor Demarest was second at 18:28.69 and Kyle Behrle went 18:56.85 for fourth place
- Gabby Spaciano took second place in the 200-freestyle, finishing at 1:56.37, 0.27 seconds off the top spot
- Maggie Rutledge was third in the 200-freestyle, with a swim of 2:00.23
RELAYS
- Cowing (25.36), Spaciano (24.05), O'Leary (24.87) and Dunnigan (24.87) opened the meet with a win in the 200-freestyle relay, finishing at 1:39.51
- Milhomens (58.35), Young (1:08.69), Dunnigan (59.96) and Spaciano (53.92) finished second in the 400-medley relay to close out the first day of the meet
