Hannah Dorney's Late Tally Lifts Women's Soccer To 1-0 Road Win Over LeMoyne

Freshman Hannah Dorney made her first career goal a big one, as her unassisted tally with just 7:27 to play in the match, lifted the Blue Devils to a 1-0 Northeast Conference road win over the host LeMoyne College Dolphins on Sunday afternoon. With the victory which snaps a two-match losing skid, the CCSU women are now 5-4-0 in NEC play and are 5-10-1 overall.  LeMoyne slips to 2-14-2 over and 1-6-2 in conference action

KEY MOMENTS

• CCSU's Nicolle Santos had the match's first scoring opportunity at the 17:47 mark of play, but her shot was stopped by the LeMoyne goalkeeper, Mikayla McPherson.
• LeMoyne has held without a shot until the 34:02 mark when Taylor DeFlorio made a save against the effort of the Dolphins' Nicole Calle.
• The opening half was a scoreless defensive battle that saw a total of only five shots taken; four of which came from LeMoyne.
• CCSU's had a 4-1 advantage in corners in the first 45 minutes of play.
• Sabrina Krause had the Blue Devils' second shot on goal of the match in the 59th minute.
• The match was scoreless into the final 10 minutes of play when Hannah Dorney netted the only goal of the match with a top-notch solo effort that saw her dribble past several LeMoyne defenders and fire a shot into the top right corner of the net.
• Taylor DeFlorio made two saves in the second half to record her second solo clean sheet of 2024.  She stopped a total of three shots over the 90 minutes of action.

• CSSU finished with a 6-5 advantage in corners on the day.  LeMoyne outshot Central, 11-4, in the match but could only put three shots on frame which were all stopped by Taylor DeFlorio.
• Nicolle Santos , Sabrina Krause, Hannah Dorney and Riley Powers each had shot for the visitors in Sunday's win.
• Taylor DeFlorio has been a part of three clean sheets this season; two solo efforts and one shared shutout with Kayleigh Smith.
• The Blue Devils have won five of their last eight outings.
• Unfortunately for Blue Devils fans, CSSU was eliminated from participating in this season's Northeast Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament with Stonehill's 3-0 win over Mercyhurst on Sunday afternoon.
