Abbie Burgess Nets The Blue Devils' Lone Goal
The visiting Central Connecticut State University women's soccer team saw its three-match winning streak snapped on a chilly Thursday evening on Staten Island, as the host Wagner College Seahawks topped the Blue Devils, 4-1, in a rematch of last year's Northeast Conference Championship tilt. CCSU now stands 3-2-0 in conference play and 3-8-1 overall; while Wagner moves to 3-1-1 in the NEC and they are 4-4-5 overall.

KEY MOMENTS
- Wagner's Claire Janis gave the home side a 1-0 lead just 10:28 into play when she ran down a loose ball and put a shot into the low right corner of the net.
- CCSU earned the match's first corner kick 15:05 into play, and off that corner, Riley Powers fired her team's first shot of the night over the crossbar.
- Daniela De Souza's fine individual effort nearly tied the match at the 20:08 mark of the first half, but the shot was just wide of the target.
- Central goalkeeper Taylor DeFlorio made her first save of the evening 23:21 into play to keep the score 1-0 in favor of the Seahawks.
- Claire Janis would the help Wagner extend its advantage to 2-0 when she assisted on a goal by Izzy Gomez at the 31:53 mark.
- Stella Orellana put Central's first two shots on goal of the first half in the 37th minute.
- Wagner upped its lead to 3-0 in the 38th minute when Deirde Meberg scored when she deflected in a tally off a free kick.
- The hosts, leading 3-0 at the half, outshot the visitors, 9-4, in the first 45 minutes of play, and also had a 3-2 edge in corners.
- Riley Powers nearly put her side onto the scoreboard just 2:27 into the second half but Wagner keeper Sam Hughes made the save.
- De Souza and Aoife Horgan nearly combined for a CCSU score in the 56th minute, but Hughes was again up to the task between the pipes for Wagner.
- Taylor DeFlorio made her best save of the night at the 67:43 mark with a diving stop, but Wagner would then score off the ensuing corner kick to increase its lead to 4-0 on a tally by Olivia Rubbo with 21:25 remaining in the match.
- Charlotte Simmons fired a free kick on goal in the 75th minute, but again Sam Hughes made the stop.
- Abbie Burgess would get the Blue Devils on the scoreboard with 3:47 to play when she buried an assist from Charlotte Simmons to make the final score, 4-1.
