Men's And Women's Soccer Earn Team Academic Award
Programs were honored for academic success by the United Soccer Coaches in the 2023-24 academic year.
The Central Connecticut men's and women's soccer teams were both honored with the United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award, announced this month. The women were recognized for the 23rd consecutive season, while the men earned the honor for the ninth time, including the fourth straight season. The honor recognizes teams that collected a combined team grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2022-23 academic year.
A total of 465 teams posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Of that total, CCSU was one of 115 schools to have both their men's and women's programs recognized.
Under head coach Mick D'Arcy, the women's soccer team made its 13th NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023, after capturing the NEC Tournament crown. The Blue Devils also had 20 student-athletes named to the NEC Fall Academic Honor Roll (3.2+ GPA) and five named to the NEC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll (3.75+ GPA). As a team, the Blue Devils compiled a 3.40 GPA.
The men's soccer team was recognized with the Team Academic Award for the fourth time under head coach Dave Kelly. The Blue Devils had 22 student-athletes named to the NEC Fall Academic Honor Roll, and eight more named to the NEC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll. CCSU registered a 3.58 GPA as a team.
United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year.
