Horgan Named NEC Offensive Player Of The Week
DeFlorio and Powers earn NEC Prime Performer
Central Connecticut State senior Aoife Horgan has been named the Northeast Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. She is joined on the NEC Prime Performer list by Taylor DeFlorio and Riley Powers.
A native of Kerry, Ireland, Horgan tallied two goals in the Blue Devils 2-0 week against NEC opponents. Trailing 1-0 in the 72nd minute of the NEC home opener on Thursday, Horgan accepted a Toni Domingos pass and slid home the game-tying goal. In the victory on Sunday, Horgan netted a pass from Stella Orellana in the 64th minute to break a scoreless tie, with what proved to be the game-winner.
Powers earned her weekly recognition for scoring the game-winning goal in the Thursday victory over FDU, putting the ball in the net with 2:57 left to play. DeFlorio backstopped the two wins, with six saves over the 180 minutes of action.
The Blue Devils are 2-0-1 in NEC play and tied for third place in the league standings with six points. CCSU will host Delaware State on Sunday, October 6th, at 2:00pm on CCSU Soccer Field.
