Riley Powers Earns NEC Rookie Of The Week Honors
Radoncic And Simmons Selected As NEC Prime Performers
CCSU's Riley Powers has been selected as this week's Northeast Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week. She is joined on the NEC Prime Performer list by teammates sophomore Emma Radoncic and senior Charlotte Simmons.
Seeing action in her first season of soccer for the Blue Devils, Powers, a native of Newton, Connecticut, scored two goals in a span of 1:10 early in the first half of her team's 6-0 Sunday home win over Delaware State. Sunday's brace gives Riley a team-high three goals so far in 2024, and she also leads the team in points with six.
Radoncic earned her Prime Performer nod by scoring the match-winning goal on Sunday just 10:55 into play when she finished a cross from Leah Howe, plus Emma assisted on Powers' first score of the contest.
Simmons picked up three points for the winners on Sunday when she assisted on a goal by Kiley Yepes in the first half and then closed out the scoring on Sunday in the 75th minute when she headed home a corner kick from Gia Edwards.
The Central Connecticut State women's soccer team is back on the pitch looking to extend its winning streak to four this Thursday night in Staten Island, N.Y. when the Blue Devils travel to Wagner College for a key NEC clash. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
