
Ford Stops 10 Shots in Women's Soccer Season-Opener
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Fairfield in the season-opener on Sunday night at CCSU Soccer Field. The first half was played in heavy rain, before clearing up in the second half, but the Blue Devils were unable to overcome the Stags' goal in the opening frame.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Stags had the better of possession in the opening minutes and would have the game's first quality scoring chance 18 minutes into play. Sam Kersey would push the ball onto her right foot just outside the 18-yard box to get a shot that forced a diving save by CCSU's Melina Ford.
- Fairfield would take the lead with just under 12 minutes left in the half. A ball would be served into the area on a corner kick and after a deflection, Ashlyn Walsh would get her foot onto the ball from Allie Kirby and make it 1-0.
- The Blue Devils' pressure would lead to a scoring chance in the 65th minute. Gia Edwards would get the ball wide and cut it back. Her shot would be stopped by Katie Wright.
- Ford would make a pair of back-to-back saves with just over 13 minutes left to deny the Stags a chance to double the lead. Meghan Carragher would take a long free kick lofted on goal that Ford tipped away before denying Dana Nadda's shot off the rebound at the post.
- Central would nearly level the game in the waning minutes when the ball would come to Edwards on the right wing. She would turn and send a hard shot on frame that forced Wright to stretch for the stop.
